Resolutions for 2017 + Progress #1

YES I KNOW it's already February and I'm only posting my 2017 resolutions now when it's supposed to be up at the start of the year. But since when have I been on time with my posts HAHA.

Since it's already February and it will be meaningless to blog about my resolutions alone, I will also include my progress but only for some of the resolutions because let's be real, how many people actually actively work on their resolutions and manage to reach all their goals by the end of the year? Definitely not me looking back at my 18 years of life but hey maybe this year will be different. Maybe.

1. Save up / earn another $4000 by June 2017

In my notebook, I actually wrote down the balance I want to see in my bank account by June 2017  which I won't reveal here for obvious reasons. But basically, I wish to see an increase in balance by at least $4000. I am just trying to save as much as I can before university starts because honestly, my family is unable to afford for my university school fees so I am definitely going to need a student loan  for that if I am unable to get a scholarship (don't think I would even get one in the first place but I am still going to try) and I will be able to at least clear part of the debt after graduating so I don't incur too much interest and also because I don't really like to be in a huge debt lmao.

This seemed like an easy target since I am working part time right now and I initially wrote an even higher amount before this but I realised that I need to keep in mind the possible expenses on my Japanese classes, driving lessons, traveling and other stuff which can cost quite a bit.

Progress:

I think it's going pretty well? I've worked almost everyday in January because it was required since it was nearing CNY and now I am working 4 days per week so I am actually earning enough per month to hit the target.

Spending wise, I've been spending less and also more careful with my spending because everytime I am about to buy something, be it food or anything else, I will think how many minutes/hours I have to work for the price and it actually makes me spend less and look for cheaper alternatives. I actually had a goal for January and that was to not buy any makeup products for the entire month and I actually managed to not buy any so I am quite proud of myself?? HAHA

I am thinking of tracking down my expenses so that I can see what I spend most on and how much I actually spend but I really hate starting something in the middle of the month. It's my OCD but it just doesn't feel like a good start and it doesn't feel good too so I will start the tracking in March, and we shall see if I actually did start in March and how it went.

2. Lose weight and hit 48kg

Weight is something that is on almost everyone's new year resolution be it weight loss or weight gain, and I am not an exception. Stress from JC and A levels (non-stop snacking) made me gain weight and chubbier than I already am which made me really self-conscious about what I choose to wear everyday. My current weight is above 50kg and my goal is to lose weight till 48kg (just so you didn't know, i am short).

My plan to achieve this goal was by exercising regularly be it a short workout at home, going for a run or even boxing for fitness, as well as cutting down on fast food.

Progress:

There's no progress LOL. I was running weekly during the last few weeks of 2016 and first week of 2017 but as soon as I started work, my routine was messed up. Because it was nearing CNY, I was required to work 6 days per week and on my day off, I have Japanese class so I was really tired everyday and did not have the energy to go for a run even if it's just a short one downstairs. Also, while I did eat less fast food, it was only a little less because I kept buying fast food for lunch/dinner during work since it's near and cheap and fast.

About boxing for fitness, I went for a trial class and while it was great and seemed effective, I didn't liked the class atmosphere so I am going to other trial classes in other boxing schools to find one suitable for me.

3. Get my driving license before my PDL expires (30/6/17)

I have always wanted to drive even though there is no way I can afford a car nor is there a car for me in the family to drive. Getting a license is the first step to being able to drive on the road and it's something I've been wanting to start on ever since I turned 18. I've actually started on the journey to getting my license in December 2016 but I only started the practical lessons in 2017 so I hope to be able to pass the practical test (hopefully on the first try) before my provisional driving license expires on the 30th of June this year. & also because it cost money to renew my PDL lmao.

Progress:

The BTT I took in 2016 and FTT I took in 2017 went pretty well since I passed both on the first try but now I am actually struggling with the practical part. I am learning manual which is obviously harder than auto and apparently, I am a slow learner when it comes to driving because I am still stuck on the third gear on my fourth lesson and I can't even steer properly. To my defense, my instructor nags a lot and waste time doing so?? I am fine with him nagging actually but the fact that he over nags and takes up time which I can use to practice more so that I can be more smooth with steering kind of pisses me off but I am just going to continue because this is what private instructors usually are. Unless he waste even more time then I am just going to switch.

4. To not be afraid to speak up and start conversations

I am an introvert by nature and I only open up to people I know / after I get used to a situation. This puts me at a disadvantage because simple things like making a phone call to ask or book something, approaching a stranger/staff to ask for directions or even meeting new people freaks me out and stresses me. Being in VJC had helped me a little because of its culture but the thought of meeting new people and making new friends still scares me. I'll be going to university this year (hopefully lolol) and this will mean that I have to meet people and make friends all over again and this stresses me so much, so I definitely need to do something about this.

Progress:

My work requires me to push sales to customers which means I will need to interact with strangers. At first, I felt really awkward asking people to sample and I stuttered while introducing our products but after a few days it became natural to me and now I am comfortable holding a conversation with a customer who is a complete stranger to me. With this, I am also more comfortable making a phone call to enquire about stuff and book appointments, as well as approach random stranger to ask for directions (but sometimes I will still chicken out).

However, talking to customers and making friends are different things and I still have trouble trying to be less awkward and make conversations.

5. Be more active on this blog

There's nothing much to say about this, just that since I started this blog, I should just continue it and not leave it hanging. When I read my old post, I enjoy relieving memories and I hope I can continue to do so and for this to happen, I will have to continue recording events and thoughts down on this blog.

Progress:

Well... just look at the time gap between this post and the previous post lolol. I would like to blame this on work because I am just too tired after work to blog but then again, I'm already blaming work for my other resolutions.

-----

As an effort to achieve my resolutions especially #5, I will continue updating my progress throughout the year and I hope that this actually happens HAHA.

Cheers to #5.
